13 Days to Go
My 10k race is 13 days away. I’m close to ready and I’m thinking there are 4 more runs between now then:
Today: a blazing 6km
Wednesday: 7.5 km
Saturday: 10km
Tuesday: 7.5km
I’ll take Wednesday – Saturday off from running although I’ll lift weights and may do a spin class on those days.
I’m starting to get jacked up!
April 28, 2012–My cat died today
Once again – this blog title in no way reflects reality. My dumb cat, Sunflower is still alive. This just shows you the depths of depravity I will sink to in order to get people to read my blog.
Anyhoo – today was an outstanding day. I woke up at 6-ish and went to the gym. Did 14 sets of dumbbell flyes with 60 pound dumbbells for sets of 6-7. I rarely work my chest directly so this is going to cause me some pain tomorrow.
I stopped at the grocery store on the way home because I decided I was going to make Tanja some Eggs Benedict. I have mastered the poached egg but this was the first time making Hollandaise sauce from scratch. I’m not going to lie to you – I ROCKED IT! She said they were the best Eggs Benny she’s ever had.
I ate these wonderful spaghetti squash things I mentioned earlier. They were outstanding. I’m hoping T will blog about how to make them. As a primal warrior I have just realized that spaghetti squash is a game changer. Who needs potatoes??
We then went to the girls’ school for an annual clean up day. Let’s put it this way: I planned to do some weeding and spreading a bit of mulch around. I ended up wielding a shovel and pickaxe for an hour and a half. It was fun and a fantastic workout.
Once we got home I went for a 7.6 km run. I knew if I didn’t go right at that moment the opportunity would be lost. I killed it. I didn’t time myself but it was damn fast. I have 2 weeks before the big 10km where I must beat 45 minutes. I actually found myself today thinking about getting under 40. That is wishful thinking.
After that we went to an absolutely wonderful dance performance. Our wonderful friends, Dave and Shannon’s daughter Emily was dancing and totally rocked it! Karen Wilson, who runs the studio did an outstanding job. I was bawling at the end, I’m soft like that ![]()
The girls are now outside working in the garden and I am reading the newspaper and having a few drinks. Chloe is having a sleepover tonight so her buddy is here and they are having a wonderful time.
What a great day.
Spaghetti Squash Breakfast Cups with a Hole in the Middle Filled with Egg
I had to share this as the lovely Tanja made this awesome breakfast muffin things. I tried to come up with a catchy name in the title of this blog but you can see my branding skills need some work. Regardless – they were delicious and I’m thinking Tanja will probably blog about them soon. I’ll post a picture later today.
Look for a post summing up this day of fitness and fun later on this evening.
We've set some dates!
Reblogged from Tanja & Jason are Getting Married!:
We've decided to keep things simple and completely personal for our actual wedding ceremony. Jason, the girls and I will head to London City Hall on May 25th at 12 noon for the official joining of our family.
I met with the officiant who asked if we would have any witnesses. You must have two and wouldn't you know it they can provide them for $25 a piece.
Spaghetti Squash
I have no idea how Tanja makes this but it is so damn good. Its actually a wonderful substitute for potatoes. She has suggested making primal muffins with it along with Ham, zucchini.
Of course, the 4 pounds of steak I consumed with it is another story entirely.

15 Chinups
Chin-ups/pull ups are something you don’t see people do all that often at the gym. The people that work their back at all usually do lat pulldowns. Being a primal warrior I have decided to start focusing more on chin-ups. I tend to go in spurts when I do these so I never seem to make any progress.
I also tend to struggle at them which is perhaps one reason I don’t do them as much as I should. I am always amazed when I see people pounding them out like they are nothing. Regardless, this morning I did 15 which is my record. I would love to get to 20.
April 25, 2012 is a day that will live in infamy
Today is not a day that will live in infamy however I’m trying to write catchy blog titles. I really don’t care if they reflect the content of my posts

I had an outstanding workout this morning which involved 10 sets of overhead triceps extensions with a 100 lb. barbell. I then did some tricep machines. I normally don’t use weight machines but I felt like it today so I did.
I went for a 7.5 km run this afternoon which helped focus my mind on finishing a proposal I had to complete for work. I didn’t time myself and was planning to run slow but I ended up rocking that run. I felt great and was obviously running very quickly. I was listening to Pink – why?? Don’t ask.
I wore my favourite headband which is both functional and a wonderful message to my daughters. I always tell the girls they can do anything and me wearing this headband reinforces the message that girls kick ass. Plus I secretly think it looks cool.
I had a few sausages for brekkie plus the epic omelette fail I mentioned earlier. I think it was because I put too much cilantro in it. Barf. I had some meatloaf and avocado for lunch and a few handfuls of almonds throughout the day.
Now – I must find something to eat while Tanja plans the Mayfair Festival at the girls’ school. She rocks.

I just created, experienced and quickly disposed of an epic Omelette fail. A full diagnosis to follow. …
A Master of Planning
Perhaps it was my time in the military reserves. Perhaps it is my preternatural ability to learn from my mistakes. It is 5:49 am and momentarily I will rise, dress, and head out into the breaking dawn to the gym.
The difference is that today I will don my workout clothes prior to going so I am not left in “nude except for one sock and realizing I gotz no gym clothes” situation.
Kaizen amigo…kaizen.
WORKOUT PRIMAL JAY STYLE!!!!!!!
Got to the gym after work. I got a terrible parking spot so had to walk a ways. Forgot my pass so I had to wait around while they gave some guy shit for not paying his membership fee. They finally let me in. I went to the change room, stripped down and went to grab my clothes and realized I had carried my laptop in from work and not my gym bag.![]()
Left and went to get a crappy haircut instead.
On the upside, Tanja made some incredible “Pretty Much Primal Meatloaf” today. I also ate a ton of broccoli and a metric tonne of asparagus.
